Director, European Content Strategy & Design

This is a new, highly visible, strategic role for a senior marketing executive to lead and expand our European Content Strategy and Design team. This team develops business strategies aimed at optimizing VistaPrint's online design library to better meet the needs of our European customers while driving business value for VistaPrint in the form of improved site conversion rate and average order value. Content consists of the thousands of designs we offer our customers to use in creating finished printed products.

 

To qualify for this exciting role you will have to be a very strong executive with a proven track record of driving value through customer centric strategies at a global company and have a unique blend of impressive analytic acumen and superior strategic thinking. By analyzing customer behavior, evaluating key metrics, understanding market trends, and extensive testing, your talented team delivers on business objectives to optimize our European content strategy. It is your responsibility to recruit, train and manage those top performing talents. In this position you will also work with our site optimization teams to sponsor key website design initiatives aimed at optimizing design gallery performance and keyword search performance in order to improve conversion rates. The ultimate goal of this position is to turn content into a key competitive advantage for VistaPrint, leading to increased conversion rates, revenue and noticeably higher customer satisfaction.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Establish and drive content design strategy and optimize the design selection and keyword search in Europe
  • Define and track metrics that measure ease of customer design selection
  • Scale our existing European content strategy team, establishing long-term structure, roles and responsibilities, and processes
  • Establish a core team of content designers who will be responsible for creating design templates that meet the needs of European small businesses and consumers.
  • Prioritize projects using data analysis and forecasting techniques based on economic value to the company
  • Set metrics for measuring the success of new content after launch. Track and report new content sales results.
  • Track trends in key industries and among competitors. Conduct market research to use as input into overall strategy and creative briefs to Creative Team.
  • Coordinate with US-based content strategy and creative teams to optimize global/local strategies and ensure we maximize global value of our joint efforts.
  • Work with the Creative Team to generate new/upgraded content and get it posted to the websites on tight release schedules.
  • Work with User Experience Team to ensure that customers are able to find the content they are looking for and easily able to develop quality printed products with it-i.e. keywording and search, re-ranking of content, uploading pictures, development of new tools
  • Understand the design and manufacturing process for each product and determine how content is affected. Monitor print quality for each product line. Set appropriate parameters for content development and/or work with team to change manufacturing limitations.
  • Manage licensing contracts for image libraries, font libraries, and other licensed content. Work with Creative to determine needs.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 10+ years of experience in a related field
  • B.A. required, M.B.A. preferred
  • Ideal experiences include advertising, promotion, or direct marketing agency experience, any kind of marcom experience, brand/corporate identity work, new product management.  
  • Strong experience in strategic development and analysis.
  • Solid understanding of the European customer, including tastes and preferences
  • High degree of creativity and good eye for style/design. You don't need to be a graphic artist, but the position requires a balance of business/strategy skills and artistic sense.
  • Hard-worker with a passion for growing a business and making a difference!
  • Adept at juggling multiple high-profile projects
  • Comfortable in a tremendously fast-paced environment.
  • Superior people skills and cross-functional relationship-building skills
  • Excellent skills communicating to all levels of an organization
  • Experience coordinating work with a lot of groups/internal constituents
  • Experience hiring, training, managing a large team of direct reports
  • Some licensing/contract negotiation skills desirable.
