DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

 

The Senior Financial Manager position is responsible for preparing financial and operating reports with full analysis of results along with responsibility for the balance sheet assets and liabilities (often including direct knowledge of general accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable and labour reporting). Manufacturing accounting experience is required to assist the Plant Manufacturing Team in identifying cost drivers and ongoing analysis of plant costs. Experience with local insurance and risk management programs, government statistics and compulsory filings may also be required. This individual will be responsible for supervising accounts payable staff and reports directly to the Windsor Controller as this position is part of the plant managing team. Person must be adept at translating operational drivers into financial metrics in order to measure performance and recommendations for improvement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops and maintains the budgeting and forecasting accuracy for Vistaprint Windsor following Vistaprint’s defined formulas and formats along with ensuring scheduled reporting deadlines are met
  • Prepares various financial statements with supporting variance analysis, capital and operating budgets and continually monitors progress also within the reporting guidelines
  • Monitors and maintains standard cost accounting systems and general ledgers
  • Assess and elevate financial risks when necessary through trend analysis and cost modeling
  • Work closely with Manufacturing to monitor the accuracy of the standard cost model in analysis of plant activities
  • Contributes to capital expenditure assessments including financial justification (NPV cash flow, payback; validation of Business Plans from a financial perspective)
  • Continually reviews spending and controls as appropriate. Provides cost and benefit analysis and helps coordinate activities on all continuous improvement efforts
  • Coordinates and oversees preparation of financial statement packages
  • Reviews and analyzes results and prepares commentaries as required. Conducts studies and assignments to advise and assist the Plant Manufacturing Team in analysis of manufacturing metrics as well as requests of other locations as needed
  • Responsible for communications with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function for continuous accuracy and transparency of plant results and updates to forecasts
  • Works together / share knowledge with the Finance teams in other Vistaprint production locations in order to share and implement best practices
  • Coordinates all year-end functions as well as other duties that may be assigned
  • Other: travel to various Vistaprint locations as necessary. Manage work hours to meet deadlines with increased activities during month-end, budget and year-end time tables.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

1)    EDUCATION:

 

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, major in Accounting and a recognized Accounting Designation (CA/CMA/CGA) preferred. Minimum University Degree with a major in Accounting/Finance

 

 

2)    EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Minimum 10+ years experience in manufacturing finance
  • Additional related manufacturing experience preferred
  • Profound knowledge of ERP systems (preferably SAP)
  • Previous management experience preferred

 

3)    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Needs to organize department workload to meet all financial reporting deadlines (monthly, quarterly, and annually)
  • Has working knowledge of all accounting/finance functions and up-to-date knowledge of Canadian accounting standards as well as IFRS and up-to-date knowledge of US GAAP
  • Mentors, motivates and communicates positively with finance staff. Provides explanation and guidance to all staff and other managers
  • Has the ability to work in a “Windows environment” and possesses the knowledge and ability to use PCs and format/formulate spreadsheets effectively
  • Must have the “hands-on” mentality of a self-starter, excellent communication skills and willingness to accept responsibility
