Finance Director (Controller)

DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for preparation of financial and operating reports along with responsibility for all accounting activities within a fast-growing manufacturing facility.

 

The Director of Finance will be responsible for identifying, leading and staffing the plant financial analysis and accounting team members. Position reports to the Corporate Finance VP; however, as this position is part of the plant management team, candidate needs to be adept at translating operational drivers into financial metrics in order to measure performance and recommendations for improvement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct activities of the Windsor finance operation. Coordinate and oversee the preparation of financial statement packages capital and operating budgets and continually monitors progress. This includes monthly variance analysis to budgets and forecasts.
  • Maintain total accounting system for Vistaprint North American Services following Vistaprint’s defined policies processes and formats.
  • Review and analyze results and prepare commentaries as required. Conduct studies and assignments, to advise and assist the Plant Manufacturing Team in the analysis of manufacturing metrics as well as the requests of other locations as needed.
  • Maintain and improve standard cost accounting systems and reporting systems.
  • Coordinate all year end functions as well as other duties that may be assigned.
  • Lead capital expenditure assessments including financial justification (NPV cash flow, payback; validation of Business Plans from a financial perspective).
  • Continually review spending and controls as appropriate. Provides cost and benefit analysis and help coordinate activities on all continuous improvement efforts.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Departments to monitor the accuracy of the standard cost model in the analysis of plant activities.
  • Interact continuously with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function of the Business Unit and Corporate team.
  • Work together / share knowledge with the Finance teams in other Vistaprint production locations in order to deliver best practices.
  • Responsibility for managing the filing of all taxes including GST / PST and federal and provincial income and property taxes.
  • Maintain all areas of responsibility related business programs, systems, and objectives as defined by the company/facilities financial policies, including local activities supporting SOX compliance.
  • Other: Travel to various Vistaprint locations as necessary.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

1)    EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, major in Accounting and a recognized Accounting Designation (CGA/CMA).  MBA preferred.

 

2)    EXPERIENCE: 

  • Minimum 15+ years in accounting, with 8-10 years experience in manufacturing accounting management
  • Manufacturing experience and background required
  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems (preferably SAP)

 

 

 

3)    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  • Organize department workload to meet all accounting deadlines (monthly, quarterly, and annually) in a fast-paced high-growth environment
  • Possess working knowledge of all accounting/finance functions, and up-to-date knowledge of US-GAAP and IFRS 
  • Hires, motivates and communicates well with all finance staff. Provides explanation and guidance to all staff and other managers. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the GST invoicing and reporting requirements
  • Ability to work in a Windows Environment and has the knowledge and ability to use PCs and format/formulate spreadsheets effectively
  • Individual must possess “hands-on” mentality of a self-starter, excellent communication skills, willingness to accept responsibility
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the GST invoicing and reporting requirements
